What Would You Do When It’s Too Late?

What would you do when it’s too late?

When he left for work would you holler “wait”
And kiss him goodbye again at the gate
Would you wink and smile as he drove away
Then pull him into your arms at the end of the day

What would you do when it’s too late?

Would you swallow your pride and call up a friend
Put those old grudges to an end
Catch up on the present and laugh about the past
All those crazy memories when you had a blast

What would you do when it’s too late?

Instead of just watching the children run
Would you kick off your shoes and join in the fun?
Would you laugh and play with them under the sky?
Listen to everything, answer every “why?”

What would you do when it’s too late?

Will you sit and cry over wasted years
Count your regrets and loathe your fears
Or will you call up your children, your sister, your brother,
Your niece, your nephew, your father or mother?
Will you hug them, love them, be a good friend;
And say all the things now that you can’t say then?

Or will it be too late?
