Comments: Dug a hole 3.5' deep which is past the frost line here. The bottom of the hole is in the shape of a mushroom. Since my property is on very hard clay, it was not necessary to build a frame or use a big foot to pour the concrete into. I used 12" sonotube for the base, and cut a piece of plywood out to fit tightly around the sonotube about half way down into the hole for added stability during the pour and cure. I also made a template for the 4 bolts which matched the bottom of my metal pier. |
