M27 - The Dumbell Nebula

Photo Details: Scope: GSO 8" Newtonian @ f/4 Filters: Lumicon Deep Sky Filter Exposure: 19 x 180sec. exposures at ISO800. Darks x 5 subtracted, no flats. Camera: Canon 300D modified Software: DeepSkyStacker, Image Plus (Digital Development), PS CS Location: 42deg 57'46"N, 82deg 20'28"W, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada Date: 09/16/2007 Comments: This is my first image taken with my new scope. Everything considered, I am very happy with this image. Considering that this scope is my first Newtonian, and is fast at f/4, I was pleased to see that my collimation attempts were close. Achieving focus is also very tricky. This image is very heavily processed and cropped. This scope has a very wide FOV. The heavy processing necessary due to the lack of exposures. I wish that I would have collected another 10-20 exposures for stacking.
