Ruffled Grouse
The ruffed grouse doesn’t get around much. I can remember my father and older brother coming up to the island to hunt them in the fall some years, as they are rarely visible during the summer. It must be the heavy, dense foliage that hides them, as they will spend their entire life wandering around mostly on the ground in territories of just a few acres, never migrating south like our loon friends.
