Blue
Heron
The blue heron is the largest heron in North America.
At Stagger Inn you can often see one walking along
our beach toward the “swamp” at the
bottom of our “mountain”. Sometimes
he will climb onto the small finger dock where
we moor the rowboat and canoe. If you startle
him, he will take off wish a loud, noticeable
“whooshing” of wings. In flight, this
metre-tall beauty looks absolutely huge with a
wingspan of six feet as he slowly flies over the
water. When the weather starts to get colder the
heron leaves Temagami and heads south to the Caribbean,
just like many of the local cottagers here! |
