SAMR

Society for Applied Multivariate Research

Annual Business Meeting

Adams Mark Hotel

Dallas, TX

April 20, 2000

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm. Brian Bolton and Charles Burdsal, co-presidents, presided.

The minutes of the 1999 Business Meeting were approved as written

Jeanne Burdsal gave the Treasurer’s report for James Klingsporn who was unable to attend the meeting. As of March 31, 2000 there was $934.23 in the account. That did not include registrations for the workshop that were received today. There were 27 paid registrations for the workshop.

It was reported that there were 27 in attendance at the Structural Modeling workshop. Four of those attending were also enrolled for Continuing Education credit. SAMR members who would like to have a workshop manual should email Jeanne Burdsal within a week. It will be necessary to print additional manuals for the presenters so there will be one final printing of the Workshop 2000 manual.

The format for the 2001 meeting was discussed. The group favored having both a paper session and a workshop. A committee composed of John Cornell, James Forbes, and James Grice was designated to develop the 2001 paper session. Dennis Jackson and Jeanne Burdsal agreed to be co-program chairs for 2001 and plan another workshop.

Potential Workshop 2001 topics were discussed. The following topics were favored for consideration: categorical modeling, longitudinal modeling, missing data, and test construction.

John Cornell reported on the status of MECR - the SAMR journal. Publication of another issue is expected soon. There are 5 articles and 2 obituaries for the upcoming issue. A lack of submissions has led to the recent delay in publication. It was suggested that SEMNET be used to solicit submissions as well as announcements with SWPA mailings.

Dennis Jackson, Ira Bernstein and John Cornell have discussed several issues related to the journal. They reported on the outcomes of those discussions. Several areas that need review and revision include: reevaluate the mission of the journal and consider changing the name from Multivariate Experimental Clinical Research (MECR) to Applied Multivariate Research (AMR). The Editorial Policy Board also needs to be redone after the death of some of those members.
