The main performance indices achieved to date can be summarized as follows:

  • Dimming to as low as 25% in power consumption is achieved, while the light output level remains proportional to the power consumed.

  • The power factor is maintained above 90% even for older types of magnetic ballasts having a power factor of only 84% .

  • The harmonic generation is well below the required standards especially at the low harmonic orders.

  • The unbalance of the current usually created by magnetic ballasts is corrected, hence losses and overheating are considerably reduced.
