Unfortunately,
because of the sudden passing of her father, Brock's All-Star goalie
Tisha Barnes was unable to attend the
finals. With an hour of practice time under her belt, first time goalie
Dawn Elliott agreed to step in. Rookie
Megan Rabourn was also sidelined with
injury.
Ranked number
one in the OUA West, Brock headed to the University of Toronto Erindale
Campus to play York University, the fourth ranked team from the OUA
East. The Badgers were able to handle the York team, and came away
with a 13-4 win. Players of the Game were goalie Laura
Gaiotto from York, and Les Maybury
from Brock.
For the semi-final
game, Brock played the eventual champion Queen's University. While
able to remain competitive for the first half, the Badgers lost much
of their steam when senior player Lianne Turner
was taken off with a sprained ankle. Outplayed, Brock lost 12-5. Players
of the Game were goalie Barb Phibbs from
Queens, and defender Heather Hurst from
Brock.
Brock played
for the bronze medal in an extremely tight game against the top ranked
team in the East, the University of Toronto. While the Badgers were
down 5-3 at the half, a brief spurt brought the game to a tie. Exchanging
goals throughout the second half, the game ended in a 7-7 tie and
went to a ten-minute overtime period. The overtime settled nothing,
as it again ended in a tie, 9-9. This pushed the game to a six-minute
sudden death overtime. After several missed opportunities, U of T
was able to break away and score the deciding goal. Brock lost a tough
game, 10-9. Players of the Game were Angela
Marrocco from U of T, and goalie Dawn
Elliott from Brock.
