BOWES, Donald Ray      13 November, 1915 - 5 May, 2002, in North York. Predeceased by his brothers Gordon (Fran) and Douglas (Adele). Lovingly remembered by his wife Evelyn (Baker) and children Doug (Coley Glover) and Elizabeth (Don Anderson), grandson Julian Anderson-Bowes and nieces and nephews Linda, Paul, Ray, Diane, Greg and Kim and their spouses. After graduating from Earl Haig S.S., he worked in a bank. He joined the Canadian Army in 1941 and served in Halifax until 1946. After the war he had a long career in the insurance industry and was a music copyist, arranger and performer, especially of jazz. He founded and performed in the Don Bowes Big Band. Don was very close to his brothers and sisters-in-law and took great delight in his nieces and nephews. He was especially proud of his grandson Julian with whom he shared his knowledge of math, knots, chess and jazz. He will be fondly remembered by his family and his many musical friends. The family will welcome visitors at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St., at Goulding, south of Steeles), Toronto, on Friday evening, 10 May, 7-9 p.m. (416-221-1159). Memorial Service Saturday, 11 May, 3 p.m. at the same location. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
