Well, this story is about my 14th jump. First of all, my name is Josh Nowell, and I am 16 years old. I jump at Zoo City Skydivers in Yazoo City, MS. This particular jump was an interesting one. I was doing a 10-second delay. I know is seems like a lot of jumps to just be doing a 10-second delay, but I have had a few problems in the static line program. It took me a while to get my arch right, then a while to get my PRCP's right. Finally, on my 10th jump, I did a clear and pull. I screwed it up, as well as my next one. The owner of the DZ recommended I do a 5-second delay, because he thought I was concentrating on the pull, and not on the arch. Well, I got a couple of back loops on the 5-second delay, so I did another. The same thing. I asked my jumpmaster if I could have a 10-second delay, so I could have a little bit more time to straighten myself out. She looked at me hard, and said ok, only if I wouldn't tumble the entire time. I said I wouldn't. So, we went up to 4,500 feet. When I left the strut of the plane, I immediately went into back loops. I couldn't seem to straighten myself out. The farther I fell, the faster I flipped. Finally, I decided my 10-seconds were gone. I pulled face-to-earth, somehow, and floated down to earth. My jumpmaster had a few choice words with me, as I
figured. She wasn't too happy, but I was. It was the most fun I have had
skydiving yet. I think part of it was the out of control feeling, kind of
like a roller coaster. Only much faster and more violent. It was the
biggest adrenaline rush I have ever had. I can't wait until my next jump,
so maybe I can get the arch right.
