Misery loves Nyquil I've been down and out for the past three days with a cold. Normally I don't mind a couple days off work, but I was beginning to go a bit stir-crazy with nothing to look at but my bedroom. Of course, half the time I was knocked out with Nyquil anyways. (oh that wonderful drug) _________________________________________________________________ Friday, July 26, 2002 One boy's mishap with a donkey Two pondering points: 1. What in the world was the boy doing to get himself into this predicament? (pun intended!) 2. How will he explain this to his future wife? Well, see, there was this donkey, and I thought...[fill in the rest]. _________________________________________________________________ Just because I love the Peanuts....! ![]() Which Peanuts Character Are You Quiz [from ***Dave] _________________________________________________________________ Thursday, July 25, 2002 'Tis the season for unwanted cookouts. Tomorrow is my department's annual summer cookout. [Insert various silly noise here.] It's not that I don't like hanging out with these people. In general, most of them are decent. There are only people the whole department that I'd rather eat fish guts than spend a social afternoon with. We'll refrain from naming names. It's the same thing every year - gather at one person's parents' house (because they have a pool), eat too much food, attack the manager with squirt guns and an inevitable toss in the pool, and go home. One bonus -- an afternoon away from my project! _________________________________________________________________ Wednesday, July 24, 2002
![]() You're Isis. Nothing could please you more than to have a suckling deity on your engorged teat. However, behind your maternal exterior lies a gruesome depth of perversion. When Osiris was killed, you put his body back together in order to have sex with it, impregnating yourself with his posthumous ejaculation. As I was sitting at a red light, there was a red armored truck just in front of me in the left turn lane. On the back of the truck was a large sign with menacing lettering that said "Armed Guard on board! Stay back 15 feet!". Just below that sign at the bottom of the truck in elegant cursive writing was "How's my driving? Call 1-800..." _________________________________________________________________ Monday, July 22, 2002 --Begin silent rant about why i hate my job-- grumble grumble grrrrr rant rant scream slam a door rip out hair delete files smack some people around hang up on a conference call send emails telling people what I really think of them grumble grumble grrrrrr. --End silent rant about why i hate my job-- _________________________________________________________________ No rest for the weary....I've been working on putting together my literary workshop, The Old Curiosity Shop for a few days now. I've got this vision that it will be a compendium of reading and writing -- doing exercises from my old college lit books, and that type of thing. I just hope I'm not too lazy to finish it. _________________________________________________________________ Thursday, July 18, 2002 It's Thursday again! 1. One hot summer afternoon, while walking through a parking lot at a large shopping mall, you notice a dog suffering badly from the heat inside a locked car. What would you do? I would get someone's attention and ask them to go into the first store in the mall and have them call security. That way, if the owner of the car/dog came out at that time, I could kick their ass for their stupidity. And, stand behind their car so they can't leave until the cops get there. No way would I let somebody get away with that. 2. You are in a restaurant rest room. You notice an employee leaving without washing his/her hands. Do you bring the matter to the attention of the owner or manager? If so, do you do it publicly or privately? Ahhh, reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. I would call the manager to my table and discreetly explain what I saw. And then I would not eat the pizza. 3. What is one item you own that you really should throw away ... but probably never will? Oh gosh, so much junk, so little to throw away! I should probably pitch some of my old stuffed animals that are hidden away in a plastic box. But I just can't let go of little no-tailed bunny! :) _________________________________________________________________ This morning, I went to the coffee shop because I deserve a tasty cup of coffee after the crappy day I had yesterday. While I was inside waiting for my hazelnut latte, a white stretch limo pulled up outside and the driver came in and ordered a bunch of stuff. All the girls inside were oohing and ahhing, and saying, "Oh, my limo is here, goodbye girls!" Why don't I get to ride around in a limo? That's what I want to know. A princess deserves to be chauffeured around, doesn't she? As I drove away in my husband's Jimmy (which I borrowed one day and never gave back) I suddenly thought, but princesses probably don't say things like "crappy day", do they? _________________________________________________________________ Wednesday, July 17, 2002 I'm having a very contemplative day. Depressing, really. Today I'm:
But hey - it's almost time to go home for the day. _________________________________________________________________ Tuesday, July 16, 2002 As I was standing in line for lunch today, a guy comes in the door and joins his two jock-looking friends directly in front of me with not even a glance that I was there. He starts talking with his friends as if he had been there the whole time, and here I am, silently allowing him cuts. I am instantly shoved through the time warp back to high school where I let everyone walk all over me. Okay, so it was just one guy. No problem, I'm probably smarter than he is anyway. A minute later, this same guy leaves the line to go take a whiz (or whatever it really is that guys do). Now, by the old rules, if you leave the line, you lose your place. There are several people behind me in line now, and still, this guy struts right back into line where his friends are, in front of me! Okay, no problem. He's probably just forgotten the manners that his mother taught him since kindergarten. Still, under the surface I'm just exploding to push him around and say, who do you think you are? God's gift to the lunch line?! You know, all of this really wouldn't have ticked me off so much if they had all paid together, but no! They all paid separately! So why is it that this yellow-striped golf shirt jerk felt the necessity to take silent cuts without even asking me if that was alright. What's the big deal about him taking his rightful place in line, behind me? He's a jerk for cutting. I'm a jerk for letting him. But I'm a nice girl. _________________________________________________________________ After a nutrient-packed luncheon on a chicken burrito via Qdoba, the newest PowerPuff Girl, Cassandra is ready for action!

I'm Vintage Madonna, who are you? Madonna Quiz by Turi. (via ***Dave) _________________________________________________________________ Why Barbie Can't Be a Mom Ever wonder why you haven't seen a "First Trimester" Barbie? How about a "Stages of Labor" Barbie? This is a hilarious article when you think about it. The author is so right - if they've created Barbie to be the 'ideal' woman over the years, why has she never been a Mom? _________________________________________________________________ How satisfied are you with your job? I took this quiz this morning and was not surprised to discover that my 37% score means: 0 to 59% -- You must be feeling really low. Life is too short to spend 8-10 hours a day in a job you hate. For everyone's sake -- your family, your friends, your colleagues and your company -- get out of there. _________________________________________________________________ Monday, July 15, 2002 Yet another reason I'm glad I decided against the teaching profession. What gets me is not just the fact that the parents sent a lawyer to take care of business, but that the school district gave in! I understand that schools are strapped for cash in the first place, but how about some morals and standards! It will be interesting to see how many more lawsuits pop up in little Peoria in the next school year. _________________________________________________________________ The air conditioning is broken at work today. Whew, it's stifling in here! This reminds me of those memorable days in school when the air was broken (which happened more often than not). Trapped in a classroom amongst teen angst and sweat - knowing you can't leave until the bell rings. Life hasn't changed all that much. I'm stuck at my desk in a place I don't want to be, and I'm still waiting for the bell to ring! _________________________________________________________________ Saturday, July 13, 2002 I finished reading Stephen King's Salem's Lot this morning. I must say that he is an incredible writer. I'm learning so much from reading his work, especially after reading his recent On Writing. The new book of choice is Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. I've heard that it's a great book, and I've never read anything by her before. I guess I was in the mood to read something new! Getting a new book makes me giddy. I think it stems from my childhood trips to the library. I can remember many summers when my mom would take me to the local library and I'd come out with a stack of books to devour. One in particular, I remember going in specifically for; I searched the rows of books by 'MacDonald' until I found Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle's Magic. The library was definitely one of my favorite places as a kid. My view on libraries has changed slightly as an adult. I still love going there (like I did today) and looking at the rows and rows of books. They didn't have Prodigal Summer today, and I almost walked out with Kristin Hannah's Summer Island, but that wasn't the one I really wanted to read. My problem with libraries now, is that somehow I've become a slight germophobe. I pick up a book off the shelf and leaf through the tattered pages, only to find mysterious brown smears and various unknown smudges on the pages. I find myself thinking, Did someone eat a Kit Kat while they read this book or what? God, I hope it was a Kit Kat. The books have become so dirty that I can hardly bear the thought of touching them. I know....I'm weird. So I guess that's why I don't mind spending the extra money to buy a book brand-spanking new, and practically germ-free! Now I just need another bookshelf. :-D _________________________________________________________________ Friday, July 12, 2002 Well, darlings, it's Friday again. And today is the cookout that I volunteered to organize. I suppose it can't really be called much of a cookout when only 5 of 16 employees are actually going. Let's call it an 'extended luncheon' instead. Yeah, I like that. I have a massive headache this morning. I think it's because when I woke up, I had been dreaming that I lost a favorite recipe and I was desperately trying to find it. My brain was in overdrive. Of course when I woke up, I knew exactly where that recipe was all along. Funny how your brain can misplace things without you knowing it sometimes! Must be a sign that I'm supposed to whip up a batch of 'Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Monster-Good Cookies'. (I made that up.) _________________________________________________________________ Thursday, July 11, 2002 The Thursday Thumb-Twiddler: Thursday in the Park - for real! 1. Would you prefer to be blind or deaf? I think I would prefer to be deaf. I love to read and write so much that I can't bear the thought of losing it. Of course, there's braille, but who says you can teach an old dog new tricks? Being deaf would have its benefits: no annoying dogs barking, no nagging. OOF! I just thought of something though. If I were deaf, I wouldn't have music in my world. That's a biggie. Okay, I'll force myself to learn braille so I can still read and write, AND listen to music. Blindness, I'm yours! 2. If you could transfer to your mate the one trait that you possess that you wish s/he did, what would it be? Of course I love my hubby "as packaged," however, if there was something I could share with him would be a love for reading & writing. He tries to read a book and falls asleep within 5 minutes. I don't really have anyone that I trust to critique my work -- I wish it could be him. 3. If you could fly in a hot air balloon over any city in the world, what city would you choose? It would have to be London. Despite the smog, it would be incredible to see those palaces and castles from up high. _________________________________________________________________ Wednesday, July 10, 2002 Thursday Thumb-Twiddler from the past... I've decided to take on the task of answering the Thursday Thumb-Twiddlers, and just because I can't wait until tomorrow to start, I've picked these questions from a past Thursday to get me started: 1. Would you rather die peacefully among friends at 50, or painfully and alone at 80? Assume that most of those thirty years would be "good" ones. I'm definitely all for a peaceful passing. Whenever my time is up, then I don't really have a choice, do I? Since I have a very low threshold for pain, I would choose the peaceful 50. 2. Your teen arrives home one night with a big dent in his car fender. You find out the next day there was a hit-and-run in the neighborhood. Would you try to find out if your kid was involved? If you found out s/he was, would you notify the authorities? What if there was a death from the hit-and-run? You bet! My kid needs to take responsibility for his actions. Accidents happen, but you need to be responsible enough to suffer the consequences when you break the law. So, yes to all questions! 3. What would the title of your autobiography be (not including your name)? I Can Swear if I Want To, of course! _________________________________________________________________ Last night, my brain apparently had a little housekeeping to do. My husband told me this morning that he woke up in the middle of the night, and I was sitting cross-legged on the bed facing the headboard, and I was rearranging the books on the shelf in the headboard. He asked me What are you doing, Cass? And I told him, I have to make room for my books! He told me to lay down and go back to sleep, and so I did. I woke up this morning vaguely remembering the incident, but not completely. So does this mean I'm going to be getting some new books to add to my collection? Or is my brain just fried? I'd like to think the former. _________________________________________________________________ Tuesday, July 09, 2002 Can you tell I'm bored [read: avoiding work] today? _________________________________________________________________ Cass A-Z A - Animals/Pets: none B - Best Friend: Hubby C - Cohabitants: Hubby D - Desire(s): a new job E - Eye Color: blue F - Favorite Food(s): green bean casserole, chicken shawarma, lobster - but only on the East Coast G - Games: Scrabble! ![]() Which flock do you follow? this quiz was made by alanna _________________________________________________________________ Monday, July 08, 2002 What a break! I could definitely do these 4 day weekends more often. Although Aunt Gimpy went back into the hospital again for complications in her gallbladder removal surgery, the weekend went off without much of a hitch. We ended up getting more time available than expected, so we finally stained our deck on Saturday. It looks okay, but we're not quitting our day jobs, that's for sure. You're going to think I'm crazy now. When I came into work this morning, the frog was in a different position, and his eyes were yellow, not red! Oh my!! _________________________________________________________________ Wednesday, July 03, 2002 TGIW! It feels like Friday today. Due to the holiday on the 4th, we have Thursday AND Friday off work. *happy dance* It will be so nice to not have to look at my project for a full 4 days. I'm supposed to be organizing a cookout at a co-worker's house next week. Do you think they'd all be miffed if I just brought jello salad? All those sugary puffs floating inside a green mold. Is that stuff edible? Anyhoo - I volunteered to lead the pack on it, and normally I would enjoy that type of endeavor. This time around, it's feeling like a chore. Not because of who it's for - she's a sweetheart - but because it's summer and I don't really want to be at a cookout with my co-workers. Oh well, that's next week. A full 4 weekend days away. Woohoo! _________________________________________________________________ Tuesday, July 02, 2002 I think I'm a dork. You know that huge frog I wrote about a few days ago? I think it's ceramic. The last two days, I've noticed that the same ugly frog has been sitting in the exact same spot under the tree, facing the exact same way. I've never seen it move. But, I'm not sure. I'm okay with not knowing for sure. I'll still keep my distance just in case. Besides, I can't imagine what the people in the Payroll office would think if they saw some girl outside their window poking at a fake frog with a 10 foot stick. I'm a moron. :P _________________________________________________________________ Monday, July 01, 2002 After working on my 'Honeymoon Memories' webpage, I've discovered that I miss England a lot!! I had a really great time while we were there, but I didn't think it was all that great. Looking back though, I would go again in a heartbeat. Of course Canterbury was my favorite part of the whole trip, but just to be in England, anywhere, would be lovely! I would love to see more of the countryside and the castles that are farther away from London. I want to delve into the history and the bloody scandals. I want to know what it was like to live in England hundreds of years ago. I want to explore! I might as well go back to dreaming for a while. We probably won't go back there any time soon. Although I would love to have fish n chips for dinner again. And I don't even like fish! :P _________________________________________________________________ | ||||||
