I know that out on the main board there is a big list of on-line writing sites. But I thought we might have our own thread here, so that we tell one another of sites that we know of personally and would recommend.
WriYe 2009: http://wriye.proboards.com/index.cgi
This is the year-long contest. You can count all forms of fiction, scripts and school work (with some limitations), and you can continue to work on Works in Progress. You set your own goal (some set as low as 50K for the year, others as high as one million words, plus everything in between). We're organized into clubs, according to our goals. ChrisK0 and I are both in the 400-750K Club this year.
JanNo: http://www.ymakadomain.com/janno/
This is the January contest. Again, you set your own goal (one fictional work). You can also continue a previous Work in Progress. Lots of high-energy chatter about writing to start the year off right!
AprilFools: http://aprilfoolsnovels.com/forum/index.php
The April contest. You can do this one concurrently with Script Frenzy, as you can count scripts as well as fiction and school work. This is a very fun site, which takes its foolishness very seriously!
StringingWords: http://stringingwords.creativemindwebdesign.com/news.php
This is a year-round site which I mod along with a woman from England and another from Australia. It's meant to support people in their writing year long, and also to encourage people to do the various monthly contests. We host some monthly contests ourselves (FinTEDNo in February and StringMo in June). We do a lot of thematic challenges (Full Moon Madness, etc.), have an excerpt and snips forum for people who want to ask for critiques, and generally try to provide for lots of ways for people to consult with other writers. One of the mods on WriYe recently said to me that we were a "serious" writers' site.
Anybody else have any sites they know of personally and would recommend?
