Eeeee! We're getting close to the date when we'll be able to validate our word counts officially and see our green bars turn purple!

Some of us, of course, need to get a move on in order to acquire a green bar! *ahem*

Anyway, here's the link to the instructions on how to scramble your novel:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/node/402946

A special word to people who are typewriting and handwriting:

You do not have to enter your text into the comp in order to validate. You can do the following:

1. Write 50,000 words by your preferred method -- banging away on the ole typewriter, scribling into your beloved notebook, scrawling the words on the walls of a cave you discovered in the side of Hamilton Mountain. This really is the important step! Write the words.

2. Get someone else -- your mom, your faithful ML, a teacher, etc. -- to look at your typed pages, beloved notebook or cave wall. Ask that person to confirm that it's 50K.

3. Now go into your comp and create a document with the same number of words in it as your novel. You could do this by pasting a bunch of old essays into one big doc, or all the letters you've ever written to your grandmother, or whatever. As long as the word count is the same as the count for your novel, you're good.

4. Scramble the doc on the comp according to the instructions provided in the link above.

5. Upload and validate.

We are all on our honour only to validate novelling word counts which we have actually written this November. You hand-writers and type-writer folks are equally on your honour only to validate the number of words actually on your typed pages, in your note book or scrawled on the cave wall.

Eeeee! It's nearly validation time! Eeeeeee!

I tried validating this morning (24th) maybe I was too early, although it updated my word count I did not go purple. I'll try again tonight when I get home.

According to Chris' message in Breaking News on the home page of the site, validation begins tomorrow, the 25th. The Aussies can validate "today", but that's because they are nearly a day ahead of us. It's already the 25th in Australia.

Or, to put that more succintly, Tuesday is Validation Day.

Yep, I jumped the gun (misread Chris's message.) Oh well, when I try again it will be with a much higher word count, lol.
Thanks Gale,
KS

*points to the left at her profile*

I did it!

Tonight at Williams, in the company of Captain Patrick, Vanyieck, Rich and Chrisk0, I crossed the wire. Whoo Hoo!

The 50,000th word was "Tess" (a woman's name), and I was in the midst of the most disturbing scene I've ever written. But I don't care, cuz I won!

Why, thank you kindly and back at you.

I was really in the mire in the middle of it all, but it was quite amazing how the last 10k rolled...

My congrats to all who have bravely endured, whether 5k, 25k, 50k or ? (who knows what cateR and ziggy will do!).

It's been an amazing experience.

Another year, another novel. This makes it three years in a row for me. :)

I'm going to do a little more writing until the 30th, but it's nice to have crossed the finish line!

Congrats all, I can't wait for the TGIO and purple celebrations. Good luck all who are still working the magic.

Come on Welestra, validate and join our purple parade (I'm getting nervous for her, although I guess validation ain't the most important thing)!!!
