It all started Monday morning when Rich, Rhonda, and I were sitting at Second Cup and Rich was stuck (I think . . .? Anyway, it was a suggestion to his novel) and I suggested putting in flying monkies and dancing bananas.
Then Rhonda exclaimed, 'We should all put that in that in our novel! It can be our Tim!'
So, I extend this snippit all to you:
Put flying monkies and dancing bananas into you novel.
It can be in reference, someone commenting on something, or literally monkies that fly and bananas that do the boogie:-D
P.S. Post it here when you do! I'm sure everyone is interested how you incorporated that into your novel.

I haven't written it yet, but I think I can do this. My people are in the tropics, so monkeys and bananas won't be a problem. The flying and the dancing? Well, I'll have to think about that.
I wonder if we should put this in our siggies? Something like...
Yes, I'm from Hamilton! Ask me about flying monkeys and dancing bananas!

I go the monkeys and bananas in my novel about wrestling, too.
I was hallucinating and that is what I saw ...<> while cutting weight to weigh in at 72 kilos.
Good idea, thanks!

“Oh fine…Mr. Brandywine, as intuitive as I may be you must ask for what you wish” Criquia prodded him, while avoiding asking him directly if he wished to avail her of her prognosticating skills. She really was very, very close to breaking all the rules for interaction with humans.
“Perhaps he wants flying monkeys and dancing bananas” Clebella quipped.
There....it has been done Ziggi.....hahahaha!

Here's mine:
I yelled sharply and pulled back as the flying monkeys swooped down, but they were only chasing after some dancing bananas, so that wasn't too bad.
But I was still nervous when I felt a hand take hold of my elbow...

"I hate to tell you," said Friese, "But there's more to life than hot tubs and nose candy."

Need help! Any thoughts how to put the flying monkies and dancing bananas into a world where such things as monkies and bananas, let alone those of the flying and/or dancing varieties, would in no way have been known to the characters? This is the one problem of picking a semi-historical novel. It takes on a more serious turn somehow. Hmmm... Saxons and celts encountering flying monkies and dancing bananas... :) I may have to cheat and put the reference into a dedication or a foreword or an acknowledgement somewhere. :)
Though there will be a supposedly mad woman in the novel. Maybe she could say something about flying monkies and dancing bananas. :)

Perhaps instead of using the words, you could describe them: mysterious small human-shaped creatures with fur and wings. Actually Saxons and Celts would probably think that flying monkeys were demons, so you might get something interesting going there.
Or you could get really clever and play with the words. Instead of monkeys, have a reference to a set of "monk keys" (you know; keys to the monastery). Someone throws the monk keys and they fly through the air. Heehee.

OK, this is probably going to come out in the edit, but here are my monkeys and dancing bananas:
“Next, you’ll be telling me they're eating dancing bananas,” Thorne grumbles.
“Don’t be silly,” Kel retorts. “That would be ridiculous.”

Managed to include them both...
"Alan's right you know."
"He always is."
"True, except for that time he inisisted that he saw flying monkeys."
"I'd forgotten about that, but in all fairness he was only four at the time. He didn't understand they were leaping from tree top to tree top and not flying."

In desperation I longed for some sense of normalcy and turned on the television more for the distraction than for something to watch. Impatiently I jabbed at the remote's buttons, bypassing all the newscasts. Having just survived the nightmare, I had no desire to see myself onscreen surrounded by police and media. I passed the channel and quickly returned. Oh my gawd, there they were cavorting in their pajamas. My beloved cartoon of yesteryear was the panacea for my pain. I laughed, dancing bananas was just what the doctor ordered. Who didn't love Bananas in Pajamas? I wondered if I still had the stuffed toy somewhere in my cartons of memories.

That's great, KnightStar! It sounds like your novel is quite serious, but you've managed to introduce them anyway. Good job!
And that's a lovely word count you've got happening there, too.

What's a group of flying monkeys called? A pack? A flock? A herd? A swoop? Hmmm ... I kinda like "swoop".
Here's the context:
The others are in far worse condition, and Thorne does not know how she is going to rescue them, even with the assistance of a whole ???? of flying monkeys.

Not sure about flying monkeys. With regular monkeys, it's apparently 'a troop, a cartload - or a barrel' :)
