As usualy I am stuck without an idea, but I've been skimming through the boards and was getting the impression that a lot of you already had an idea in mind (even if you are going to change it).

This thread is designed for you to share your idea(s)! Because we all know how much writers love to brag about their novels! (I swear in november that's all that comes out of my mouth):-D

If you don't have a solid idea, write about it vaguely. Maybe it'll help you out in figuring out exactly what you want to do. Or, if you don't have an idea, write about what stuff you like to write, or something you may want to try differently for this year (or, for your first nano)

This is going to be here all year, so keep us posted on what you're working on, we'd love to hear it (no, really, we would. If you're new, you gotta know, hamilton is brilliant for it's support of other writers :-D)

I'll go first:
For my first nano (Oh, remember 2006, when I could count the number of people who showed up on one hand?) I wanted to try a genre I've never written and LOVED! Sci-fi would be that genre. It was an amazing story (I was re-reading it a couple of weeks ago, but gave up to read the cuteness of my second nano), if I do say so myself.

I had such success with that one (50,100 at 11 o'clock November 30th, after 12 hours of writing), I carried on that genre to last year. I've never been able to write more'n 5K (there's on exception) in another genre, so you could see why it made sense. I did sci-fi last year and hit 79K by the end of the month.

This year, despite my obvious success in that genre, I want to move away from it. I feel November is such a strong writing month that I can do a new genre. I'm going to cry not being able to make a lot of random stuff happen or getting to make up all these gadgets, but hey, it's only a month.

Other than that, I really don't have much. I'm debating it to be like a messed-up first person, but I've never done that, so?

What are your ideas for Nano?

I had no idea what I was going to write about when I went to bed Sunday night, I just knew there would be a murder or two because there always is (and what does that say about me, lol.)
At 2 AM I woke up knowing my MC's name, names of the other characters, the plot and sub plots and even a fair bit of dialogue. I fell asleep a couple of hours later and when I woke up again I remembered it all. Guess that's what I'm going to be writing.
Upon the death of her grandfather the MC learns that her whole life has been a lie and even when she thinks she has learned the truth, she has only just scratched the surface.
There is romance, there is danger and oh yes, there is murder.

Let's just say that, while not appearing in my story in any way shape or form, and not at all related to the fiction he belongs to, Hiro Nakamura is going to be a very strong influence.

Okay, for my NaNo this year, I'm thinking of writing about an orphan(Not sure about gender yet, my mind keeps changing it on me) who's parents have very recently died. The MC begins to have these dreams about his parents, which he believes are real. The MC will eventually be put in an institue as he develops schizophrenia, and then I have no idea where to go from there.
Please help me?

Dances and jumps up down excitedly..I have an idea for my novel..i am writing about my main characters life as viewed through the ideas of her cat. I got the idea when I say one of my own cats watching me working on my garden from an upper story window and I could her the commentary going through her head.

I want to make a sci-fi novel, but I really have no clue where what when why or hows of it. I thought I had one, but i'm liking it less and less every minute so I need a new angle.

My life has been one of writing and sports - not always in that order, although both play a profound role in who I am as an adult. My novel is going to be a cheat, of sorts. It is going to be a semi-fictional memoir. I do intend to change the names so that I won't get sued.

There are always a few moments in our lives that haunt us, well, me anyways. The last year I participated in sports at a very high level has a number of such moments for me. I'm humming the tune to U2's "Stuck in a moment" while I type this up. Anyway, the novel will start at the end, and then go back to the beginning and then work itself back to the end.

One of my favourite books has to be "The things they carried" by Tim O'Brien. I want to be able to write half as well as he can, with as much respect for the characters and himself (he appears as a character in his own stories).

Incidentally, I have started my own NaNoWriMo facebook group, as I wanted to include as many people in my circle of non writing friends as possible. I'm kinda hoping they "Plink" me in my brain and remind my of stories, incidents and perspectives I should include.... which might also be considered cheating by the NaNo members at large.... send me a message if you want to lurk there, too....

All right - I am way behind on planning out my Nano this year. Last year I had a snazzy little notebook where I jotted down all kinds of things in time for november but this year I've just got an inkling of an idea that needs a lot of expansion (and a plot.. a plot would be nice :)

Anywho, so here's what I've got so far. Young adult, romantic historical fiction. Love love love this genre. I read loads of it, but only write it during Nano. It's world war two, England. Well-off London kids get sent to their aunt in Canada, after their townhouse gets bombed. Main character is the eldest daughter - Florence (aka Flora, aka Bossy Flossy), probably around 16ish when she's sent over. Little brother Oliver (aka Ollie) goes too. They end up in a fictional town in the Okanagan in BC at their aunt's orchard. Romance, hardship, loss etc still to be imagined and figured out.

Any ideas?

Cheers!

I don't have complete clarity about which project bouncing around in my head I'm going to tackle, but I do know for certain that it will be set in Thorne's world, the site of my 8-book series. I'm trusting that clarity will emerge between now and midnight of Oct. 31! ;-)

I'm so excited that I had this idea for Nano WAY before even October. Last year I was scraping together an idea last minute from a vague concept. I wish I'd finished that story though, as contrived as it was I read over it and go 'Aw.'. I hope to finish this one though!

So I'm going to be writing a young adult fiction, yep that's right! The stuff one passes by as fluff. I read them like it's going out of style and really look forward to trying my hand at them. It's going to be a semi romance novel called "Shy Away". Based around these two characters: Anthony, a boy with crippling OCD and Shy a sort of free spirit out of this world kinda girl. They're brought together by an end of the year assignment and Shy's overly indignant nature, and it just goes through their time together. The ups the downs, the awkward fumbling romantic moments and the mental breakdowns : P. It'll be first person perspective, flipping back and forth through chapters between Shy and Anthony. I'm totally psyched!

I'm so excited for this month. I am actually stepping out of the world of Fantasy this November, which wasn't something I planned. My story is kind of a teen angst, although there is no agnst, so more of a comedy. The title was the first thing that I came up with and it while I was painting a house. I was working with primier, it was early and the fumes... but anyways, I was kneeling and stood up and the newspaper that I was using a drop cloth stuck to my knees, and a lazy thought floated through my head like this: Hmm... What to do when your knees stick to newspaper? and that became the title it went from there. Mostly it follows Ally, teenage girl who just moved, her father is getting remarried and she's the maid of honour, she goes through the last month of high school, chasing guys, getting into and clumsily out of drinking and drugs, and plays the Ultamite Game of Life (including the board game) and lands on her feet on the other side of the Prom knowing just that much more of herself..

Having eleven unfinished writing projects on the go (and twelve being simply ridiculous) and the caregiving circumstances of my current existence and being I had no current ideas for a new novel and being that I haven’t touched last year’s Nano novel since December ’07 I began to think I would forgo participation this year.

But then I realized that the whole insane bunch of you were probably facing the same hurdles and probably worse so I stopped wimping out and embarked on the nerdliest scientific process ever embarked upon to isolate three out of a bhjillion short story ideas that could be fused together into one novel – hopefully a short novel. Like 50,001 words if you catch my drift.

So it shall concern the apparently tragic life of an apparently lonely man, his adolescence through young adulthood, told in one stream chronologically from his point of view while the remainder of his life is revealed through a second intermittent story, largely in reverse-chronological order as learned from witnesses in the course of investigation by the biological daughter who he never met in life and who only learned of his identity the day of his funeral. The two stories converge at the story’s climax with the tragic event that led to the daughter’s abandonment.

The last chapter shall deal with his dying moments and an ambiguous, possibly miraculous redemption.

But once I start writing who knows what’ll happen. It may end up being about monster trucks and a one-eyed turtle named Biff.

I'm thinking urban fantasy...a la Charles DeLint http://www.sfsite.com/charlesdelint/
and Matt Ruff http://home.att.net/~storytellers/

I'm thinking my MC will be a 45-50'ish woman....dealing with extreme empty nest syndrome, feeling a lack of purpose....never has gotten over the loss of her spouse (disappearance/divorce/separation/death, haven't decided yet). A supernatural being comes into her life in order to restore balance to her life and help her feel her self worth again.

My novel this year is a mafia-romance, and so unfortunately it'll take a lot of work to keep it out of the hands of my crazy friends (I really shouldn't tell them anything anymore)

It's about the daughter (Temi) of a successful, rich business-couple, who attends a private academic school for the heirs of companies, the children of politicians...etc. She's the only girl in her class, and her only (and best) friend, Xavi, is the son of a well-known politician. Temi is a perfectionist in every way and believes that there is only one solution to anything, that there is only one "right".

She has a mad crush on the antagonist, Allante, a cold-hearted, easily-aggravated son of a tech mogul. Xavi has a crush on temi but he doesn't want to disrupt their friendly relationship. He wonders about Allante and his background, but doesn't get close enough to ask any questions.

When Allante's father suddenly falls sick, and orders an arranged marriage for Allante, with Temi as his bride (their parents had ....connections), the world is suddenly turned upside down. Temi is pleased with the results, Allante is apathetic, and Xavi is devastated and determined not to let the wedding go on. He has only a few months to win back Temi's heart and somehow disrupt the marriage plans. There is a secret that could potentially help him.... but will he sink so low to win back his best friend?

o__o that was long, but just writing it got me all pumped up. Now I need an outline!

I have an idea brewing involving alternate history, psychics and a Bourne style manhunt.
I could elaborate but that's all that's really solid right now.

This year I am going back to what really worked for me in 2006. Third person suspense thriller. I enjoyed trying the 1st person last year, but that one really took a lot out of me and despite several attempts, I have not been able to finish off that project. I've got a wild concept I've been considering trying for years. I'm finally going to stop talking about writing it and just do it.

This book is going to be titled 'The Cure' and it will be a manhunt like book with a twist with a coverup that will flip everything upside down and characters that will be intense and zealous in what they do. Rather than start slow and finish off running. I plan to make this book a sprint, running full out from start to finish. Balls to the wall people... :)

I'm likely going to be a no show for the pre-party cause its too close to my birthday and I'm likely to have plans, but I will make more of an effort to be present for the mid-month thing. I will be around and writing a lot. See you at the finish line.

Josh

Is this a suspense thriller? Perhaps the parents are not really dead?

Oh noes! I am a horrible person. My MC is having an affair with a married man (tsktsk) and I just threw a kid into the mix . . . Randomly. Right on the spot. I didn't even plan it. This is going to cause a serious blow-out in the morning with the two of them (my MC found out through a secondary character and is now mad at said married man)

My story did that in a way--got away from me, I mean. What could have been one paragraph is now over 12K and still going. At first I thought I'd just take it out in editing but now it's much too long and rather working in and signifigant for that to even be a possibility.

Oh man, I haven't a clue where my novel is headed. I just know it's about superheroes and such. I'm trying to put a new spin on things (using different super powers and such) and trying my hardest not to make it corny.

The only thing I know I want to happen is the death of one minor character and I have my main villain pretty much panned out. So, it's pretty much getting from A to B I'm having trouble with.

Last years novel was so random and I really didn't care what the out come was, while this year it;s the opposite. I really want my book to be good. So, I'm letting my inner editor get the best of me. That's pretty much why I'm lagging.

This year I really changed up my writing styles. I'm writing in the third person and my main character is a guy in his twenties, while I'm use to writing my stories in the first person and my main character being a teenage girl.

And that's pretty much, lol.
