Medical Sheepskins
for
bedsore,
pressure sore and decubitus ulcer prevention.
Preventing bedsores
is the
logical and most humane method you have of caring for
those confined to a bed or wheelchair. Bedsores are
unnecessary and, 95% of the time, can be prevented. -American
Family Physician, October 1996: v54, n5, p1519 (14
Bedsores are
debilitating sores that can be prevented or treated with the
use of Australian Medical Sheepskins and Wool-Pile. The
2004 clinical trial at the Royal Melbourne Hospital,
showed that Australian Medical Sheepskins; used 24/7,
reduced the incidence of bedsores by 58%.
Bedsores can develop quickly and
may be
very difficult to heal. It is much kinder and economical to be pro-active in
the prevention of bedsores. Most often, bedsores develop in the
tailbone area first. These bedsores can develop in hours and may
take months to heal. Don't allow this to happen! Use our Australian
Medical Sheepskin and Wool-Pile products to prevent bedsores and
add a new sense of well being and comfort to those confined to a
bed, chair or wheelchair. Australian HiTemp Medical Sheepskins should be used 24/7,
year-round; for best prevention of bedsores. You will
not feel hot on a sheepskin during the hot weather. Wool
is an excellent insulator and the sheepskin will
insulate the user from the bed or chair. So, heat will
not readily pass to the person resting on the sheepskin.
Alternatively, when the weather is cool, the sheepskin
will insulate the user again. However, in this case, the
sheepskin will prevent heat loss to the bed or chair.
The end result is that sheepskins help to maintain a
constant body temperature and thus a sense of well
being.
Bedsores, decubitus ulcers and pressure sores develop through 4
stages. Notify your medical practitioner and nursing staff if you
notice any of the following:
Stage 1. You will notice redness of the intact skin. The skin is
unbroken, but inflamed and may be painful and warm to the touch. You
might also notice the skin's texture may be spongy or firm.

Stage 2. Here you will see the first sign of skin breakdown and
partial skin loss. It will look like an abrasion, blister or shallow
crater. The outer layer of the skin is broken, red and painful.
Surrounding tissue may be pale, red or swollen.

Stages 3 and 4 result in ulcer production. The skin has broken down
and there is extensive destruction or damage to the underlying
muscle, bone or supporting structures.
Ulcers are extremely difficult to heal and may take many months for
complete repair. Preventing bedsores should be
considered seriously.

You can prevent this from happening with 24/7 use of
Australian Medical Sheepskin products.
Our
Australian HiTemp UR Medical Sheepskin products
are:

Sheepskins are 38 - 40 " long by 30- 32" wide; making
them large enough to provide protection from the shoulders to below
the buttocks.
3. Guaranteed to retain their qualities for at least 50 industrial washes;
when cared for as recommended in our "Warranty and Care"

These sheepskins have been specially tanned so that
they will not be broken down by urine. All other
sheepskins are quickly and permanently damaged by urine.
