1951 BSA Bantam D1

Much like my BMW 75-6 web site, I threw these pictures together quickly just to get something online. In the near future I'll create a better web site, and have a pile more pictures. I'll also accompany the pictures with written documentation of each step of the process.

November 30 2007 - after many hours of sanding the frame down to the metal I finally found the serial number by the front engine mount. After A quick internet search I discovered the bike is not a 1949 as originally thought... it's a 1951.

Rough Idea Of Things To Come

1951 125cc

November 11 2007, my son Griffin and I made the 9 hour drive to Sault Ste Marie to pick the bike up from this loft where it sat for the last 30 years.

November 13 2007, we placed some of the main pieces in a very general approximation of where they will end up one day. Nothing was bolted in place for this picture.

The original 125 cc motor for this frame. Top speed is rated at about 45 MPH

Layers of paint and surface rust...

Not exactly the same shot, but the front end cleaned up a bit.

A second 150cc motor that will fit the same mounts. It's actually from a 1954 D3 with top speed of about 60 MPH.

Sanded down. The dent on the side is actually supposed to be there. It's an indent for the forks.

Waiting to be re-upholstered...

Waiting to be cleaned up, but this piece worries me. It is dented up pretty bad and I'm not sure if it can be re-chromed. I'll have to look into this...

Bantam's came with the gas cap on left or right. I'm trying to determine which is correct for the 1951 model.

A Bunch Of Wheels

I just love the look of it...

No explanation why it only reads 27 miles.

A bunch of wheels. The two in the fore front seem to be the originals.
