For a history of our successes and failures, see the section on computer timing and scoring in our How To Build a Home Track link.
Without going thru the entire installation process, we wanted to give you an idea of the effectiveness of the software so you can develop an appreciation for how much it adds to your racing enjoyment. Accordingly, we converted two of your most popular programs so that you could simulate their operation at home using just your keyboard.
You can simulate a car passing over the PhotoCell in Lane Two by pressing "1" on your keyboard and similarly, "2" for Lane Two. Wait at least 3 seconds on each lane between laps to get the best results.
The demonstration programs have preset options, have several explanation screens and do not allow repeat sessions, otherewise what you see is what you get with the full PhotoCell version.
All our PhotoCell software products make use of the remarkable technology.
Gonzalez R.M.S. is simple, easy to use, Freeware for two lane home tracks. Written in QBASIC (and supplied as an executable program), it will even run on 8088’s, 286’s, 386’s and up. Gonzalez R.M.S. continually manages sets of 15 races, referred to as a "series" allowing you to customize your track name and lane colors. It prompts for the driver’s names for each "series" and features five red starting lights with a random delay start signal (0.5 - 3.5 seconds), just like Formula 1. After each race, the operator (i.e. chief steward) keys in the finish order, then the system tallies the results and displays them on the screen. The system also features a sudden death race in case of "series" ties and has race restart capabilities for those occasional botched starts (by the drivers, not the software!).
Gonzalez R.M.S. is designed to promote careful driving by encouraging and rewarding second place finishes. Our house track rules include a "Spin and You’re Out" policy. Like F1, it’s 10 points for first place, 6 points for second place and zero points for a DNF.
Gonzalez R.M.S. is designed to run a "series" of 15 relatively short races in rapid fashion. This way you maximize your track time and you get to know your opponent’s driving style/technique. The real winner emerges by the end of the "series". It’s up to you to determine individual race distances and spin recovery rules for your own track.
Gonzalez R.M.S. is designed to work independently from the track and ten year olds have no problem taking over the Gonzalez R.M.S. controls and "running the show". There is no timing capability and therefore no connections are required to the track (like switches or dead zones). If you have a printer, <Shift+PrintScreen> will give you a hard copy record of the results.
Gonzalez R.M.S. is free.... we want to promote the hobby of 1/32nd scale slot car racing. (HO’ers and 1/24er’s can use it too, they need all the help they can get). Have fun... it’s easy to use. It takes 48K of disk space and runs in DOS or from Windows. Let us know what you think.
