The Seven Samurai by Akira Kunozawa is probably the martial arts action film that started the genre, and even today it remains regarded as a classic. It would appeal to any martial artist or action fan. Although the film is long, three and a half hours, it captivates the viewer from beginning to end. The seven samurai is a black and white movie produced in 1954. but still remains a must see. The 7 samurai details the lives of 7 unemployed samurai hired by a small japanese vilage to defend the village against recurring bandit attacks. The 7 samurai movie was the motivation behind the famous american western movie - The magnificent seven. In the 7 samurai the world is introduced to famous japanese martial arts cult icon Toshiro Mifune but as good as Mr. Mifune is there are wonderful performances by all the actors in the 7 samurai. The film is good introduction to the lives and values of the japanese samurai. Director Kunozawa was probably in a better
