Welcome to
CHUKIDO KWAN COMBAT HAPKIDO
Chukidokwan Combat Hapkido is a combination of easy to learn and highly effective joint locks, traps , holds, strikes and throws. Chukido-Kwan is a real life self defence style based on traditional Korean martial arts as well as Japanese karate styles and North American grappling. If you have ever wondered what all the movements we do in our karate kata are for, the Chukido-Kwan Combat system is the best place to help you find out.
Classes are offered in Mississauga, Ontario at the Quoc-Wai Kung-Fu club, 3485 Semenyk Drive. Class times are most Tuesday and Thursday nights from 8 pm to 11 pm. Grandmaster Chuck, Sensei Omar and Sensei Brian also offer additional training times to students who want to progress further.

Sensei Willie Lau and Chief Instructor Grandmaster Chuck Platten
instructs at most classes. Grandmaster Platten holds black belts in Judo, Jiu-Jutsu, Tae Kwon Do
and other martial arts in addition to his grandmaster ranking in Kun Shin Bup Hapkido.
Sensei Chuck created the Chukido-Kwan system and has devoted his whole life to the study of highly effective
self defense techniques. Recognized as a founding member of the World Black Belt organization, Many established martial artists, seek him out for his
wealth of knowledge of techniques and applications.
One of the benefits of Chukido-Kwan Combat Hapkido is that it helps students of Karate and other martial arts, understand the applications of the
moves in their kata and forms. You will discover that what you thought were strikes and blocks, may actually be
something totally different!
There are no kata or forms in combat hapkido. At each belt level a series of applications
has to be memorized. To advance to yellow belt, for example, 10 escapes from wrist grabs must be learned along with 2 sparring
techniques and 2 floor techniques. As the student progresses, the basic techniques are expanded apon so they can be applied from the floor, against the wall and against
knife, gun and stick attacks.
Proper falling technique is also taught progressing to more advanced techniques like dive rolls.
Knowing how to fall is crucial to prevent injury during practice and can also be a lifesaver if you trip
and fall even outside of a combat situation.
Chukido Kwan is excellent for women seeking a rigorous cardio workout and a practical method of self defence. In addition, Chukidokwan practice is a great way
to lose weight and gain flexibility.
Sensei Chuck is proud of the accomplishments of Sensei Iny, a female student who went on to become one of the highest ranked
womens self defence competitors in North America.
The focus of our hapkido class is more toward adults. Chukido Kwan Combat Hapkido is not reccomended for Children 13 Years and younger, due to
the possibility of damage to developing bones from throws and joint locks. We take every precaution to introduce techniques in a
safe manner. No horseplay or reckless behaviour is tolerated in Grandmaster Chuck's classes.
Come visit our club soon, classes are very informal and membership is inexpensive.
